BWM 50 – Equal Odds Rule – Entrepreneur Magazine

BWM 50/100 - Build with me SalesTrainerIn
BWM 50/100 – Build with me SalesTrainerIn

Today I read an article by Entrepreneur magazine. (You can access the article here.)  This article was in the category “habits”. I am a massive fan of forming habits and creating routines. This article was introducing the “Equal Odds Rule”.

Equal Odds Rule

The key message of this rule in the bigger picture is “if you want to make a masterpiece, you have to be willing to create a little garbage along the way”. Love it! Flawlessly on fleek.

Why I get so excited? Because it’s an absolute destress! Everyone who is working creatively – and many of us do. Especially when we are on the entrepreneurial journey. The equal odds rule simply means that the likelihood of creating a successful piece that eventually goes viral can be increased by simply creating more (high value) content. The more the merrier.

Do not spam!

Apparently we are talking about high value content. Spamming people with unneeded, bad content is definitely not the the expected outcome. Except you want to create a massive shitstorm. But I doubt this is what you want. Therefore content is key and as you probably can’t really influence which piece of content eventually goes viral you want to create only masterpieces.

10x rule

I guess one reason why I absolutely love this approach is because it is in line with the 10x rule. This massive action approach buys into the same concept to fight obscurity. To make some noise in the massive and packed world of the www.

BWM 22/100 – Impress yourself!

BWM 22/100 – Impress yourself!
BWM 22/100 – Impress yourself!

Yes, it’s cool to impress the cute boy next door. It’s cool to impress your best friend. It’s cool to impress your parents. It’s cool to impress your professor. It’s cool to impress your employer. It’s freaking cool to impress the world – I believe it’s cool. Haven’t done this one yet … Maybe someone who did could give me a hint on how cool it is, please?

But guess what is even cooler? To impress yourself!

Impress myself?

You are your longest commitment. You are the person you spend 24/7 with. You should not only love yourself and the time you spend with yourself but also impress yourself from time to time. Don’t you think?

Today I impressed myself.

Feeling pumped.

Pushing boundaries – relentlessly

For example I consider myself not a morning person. My husband would say the same. I don’t like mornings too much. It’s not that I hate everyone who is speaking before I had my caffeine intake but close. I just don’t really feel awake until after a certain amount of time.

So, I decided to go to bed a bit more early and while being in bed trying to sleep. This means no more social media, no reading. Not even this super thrilling novel. Nothing! Nada.

I forced myself to two spinnig classes at 7am last week. 7 am means being in the gym, on the bike, ready to rumble. I mean I love spinning ever since but 7 am is pretty tough for me. Especially before breakfast.

Well, anyways. I did it and I loved it! It was so much fun that I already signed up for both classes for this week.

Another thing which used to be really tough for me is planning my week ahead. Yesterday (Sunday as I am writing my blogs with one day time delay in case you haven’t noticed) I got myself a nice cup of my favourite tea, grabbed my notebook and did it! Oh boy was I proud 😉 just kidding. What made me proud was that this morning before the alarm went on at 5.30am I was already awake. And it was a Monday! I was happy, smiling and absolutely ready to rock this day.

By the time my hubby left stunned the house I had already accomplished 2 tasks of my list and was still in best mood.

Make it a habit!

To not keep it a one time success I will try establishing some things I am not particularly keen on. I will do this by including them in routines. Until they are only a habit I no longer have to think about. Like brushing my teeth. Or something I can somehow celebrate as either down time or me time like planning my week ahead.

How are you impressing yourself?

BWM 21/100 – Constantly learning and my nerdy self

BWM – Learning – Day 20
BWM – Learning – Day 21

On this journey I am learning more than ever! It’s kind of cool and my nerdy self loves it. But it’s not always fun tho because when you are responsible for building a business you have no choice what to learn. You simply have to figure stuff out.

Learning about Social Media – the fun bits

Since I started this journey a year ago with my blog I levelled up my social media skills a lot. I started with a private Facebook page, a LinkedIn and a Xing profile and lots of no clue. Oh, I also had a not used Twitter and Instagram account.

In the meanwhile I run 4 Instagram pages, 2 Facebook “business” pages, 4 Twitter Accounts and also try to keep my other profiles up to date. Plus I write regular Blog posts, which I now also try to SEO optimise. Yes, I actually had no clue how the hack to do this until a couple of months. (SEO – search engine optimisation). I even have run my first paid ads.

Sounds like nothing special? For me it was. I never really bothered to much with Social Media and now got pretty addicted.

These kind of stuff are definitely the fun bits of being an one woman show.

Figuring everything out – also the not so cool bits

The bigger part of creating a business is of course not social media and stuff but to learn about taxes, registering a company, writing a business plan etc. This is another part of the journey that requires a lot of learning on the job and along the way.

I believe the only way to do it is to read a lot, stay informed and not to overthink stuff. In some cases like taxes these are necessities and needs to be done. So it’s best to just get into the action part asap.

Some other tasks like writing a business plan can actually be a lot fun. When you do it for yourself and for no one else, you can create an awesome roadmap and start getting concrete on where your journey shall lead you. Sometimes, especially when you write the plan for an investor pr a bank you will have to put it into a certain layout. But in most cases it’s just an amazing way to think things through, structure your thoughts and know where you are going.

BWM 16/100 – 10x and other books

BWM – Build with me SalesTrainerIn and help me becoming a 10x Entrepreneur – Day 16
BWM – Build with me SalesTrainerIn and help me becoming a 10x Entrepreneur – Day 16

The title of today’s post is “10x and other books” because I want to talk about books. Books are an absolute essential tool on everybody’s journey – especially on the entrepreneurial one.

I think I have read more books or listened to Audiobooks in the last 2 years than at any other given time. I’m not talking about crime, thriller or other “novels” but rather I mean non-fiction books. Sales books, books about creating wealth. Books about building a business. About efficiency and productivity. About personality and motivation. The list is long… A couple of fiction books as well – when I needed a time out. But mainly non-fiction books.

A couple of you might think this is boring shit – then this is the right time to stop reading this post.

Why I believe books are an essential tool for an entrepreneur

Because you can find every information you need to know! In a super structured way. To every topic. Without searching for info and waisting too much time researching topics. Sure, sometimes you have to do your research and it’s then the right thing to do. But there are literally books for every topic. Some don’t even go out of style or out of date. Some stuff is still relevant from 100 years ago.

Hate reading? Take an Audiobook

Another reason is that you pretty often don’t even have to read it yourself. You can listen to Audiobooks – someone is read out to you. How amazing is this please? You can listen to the books when you commute, do  the laundry, use the crosstrainer or cook.

Still to lazy? Listen to a summary

Some books you done even have to read as a whole as there are amazing summaries out there with some key points. I even have a couple of them on my blog here. Like the one from Brian Tracy “Eat the frog”. Summaries like this are amazing when you just need a fresh up or when you want to get an idea whether the book is “right” for you.

Some books are worth reading tho

A couple of books you still should read. Absolutely read. One of them is “The 10x Rule” by Grant Cardone! I am currently listening to this book for the second time as it is an amazing motivational kick. It challenges your thinking about goal setting, middle class and competition. And action! Massive action! 10x action!

I have published a summary of the book earlier this year (you can check the summary out here). But I would absolutely recommend this book to everyone who has a dream and wants to get shit done. Who wants to get real. Who wants to be a big player.

Find people who inspire you and get inspired regularly, then take action!

Another inspirational leader on my journey so far is Gary Vaynerchuk! I have read / listened to all his books – currently finishing the “Thank you Economy”. And he is the man for everyone who doesn’t mind cursing. Who wants something real. Who wants to get inspired by real hustle and swag. I would recommend you his YouTube Videos or Ted Talks. I would recommend you the USC 2015 Keynote speak. Here is the link.

BWM 15/100 – Monday feeling when you are in charge!

BWM – Build with me SalesTrainerIn and help me becoming an Entrepreneur – Day 15
BWM – Build with me SalesTrainerIn and help me becoming an Entrepreneur – Day 15

Monday – for many, many the less loved day of the week …

Why?

Because we have to get back to work.

Because we no longer can do the stuff we enjoy doing.

Because we have pressure and have to get up early and and and ….

Monday the bad boy!  Wait a minute, really?!

Is it the Monday that make things bad? Or are it more the circumstances? The circumstances we pretty often have put ourselves into? The circumstances we don’t like but don’t change? Maybe you are not in the right job or maybe you are currently in a very shitty time of your life. That sucks. Yes, definitely. Totally. But how often non of this is the case and we are just bored? How often are we just unhappy? Unsatisfied? How often would we love to do something totally different but are just to comfortable to stay in our comfort zones? When we are honest with ourselves the answer might be “well, from time to time” or “actually, pretty often”.

Shall I change everything and fall in love with Monday?

Well, if this is what you love, you might like to. Another option is to avoid the Monday blues by

  1. getting aware that this is our life and we can do whatever we want. If we don’t like things we can pretty often change them.
  2. accepting the status quo if we do not want to change things and put the work needed for changes into it.
  3. planning something for Monday evening we very much look forward to.
  4. getting a Sunday routine and doing something enjoyable on a Sunday evening to be ready for the new week.
  5. setting ourselves goals for the week and see the Monday as a change with new goals to accomplish.
  6. writing a “to do” list on Friday evening already before leaving work so we can “switch off” the brain without the fear of forgetting something important.
Alternatively, put in the work and create the life you love!

We all got one shot and I truly believe we should take it. For me it’s being my own boss. This is 100% not the right or ideal way for a whole lot of people but it’s for me. Another dream I had was to move abroad. I got the most amazing chance as my husband lived abroad when we met. So it was kinda easy for me to go this step but I still had to do a couple of changes and maybe sacrifices. Whatever it might you want. Get clear about what you want and what it might take to realise it and create the life you love. Might be worth it.

Btw for me Mondays do not matter anymore – maybe this is why I post the Monday topic on a Tuesday…

Two weeks in on my entrepreneurial journey as a female founder.

It’s starting to feel a bit more real. A bit more “hell yeah, I’m living my dream”. It’s still scary and I guess it will be scary for a while – but that’s the fun, right!?

I think it’s absolutely on the time to say a massive THANK YOU to everybody who spontaneously joined me on this journey already. I say spontaneously because it’s a couple of people I have “met” randomly. Our ways have crossed by accident. Or destiny.

I am talking about all these loose connections either on LinkedIn, Facebook or Instagram who are just suddenly there. Who are a massive support for me and who are great people to walk the talk with.

Since I joined this journey and started blogging nearly a year ago (yeah, it’s MyNutShare’s birthday soon!) I truly believe that you can build doors for opportunity to lock onto!

And there is another, special group I want to mention:

Female Founders

There are not too many of us. And the ones who are there and I was lucky enough to connect with are simply amazing! There is absolutely no bitching or anything. Just massive support and empowerment from every angle. Our goal is to empower and inspire. Glad to be part of this amazing group!

Let’s go #girlbosses – we can be whoever we want to be, create whatever we want to create and live the life we want.

Build with me – Days 10 & 11 of my first 100 days as a full-time entrepreneur

BWM – Build with me SalesTrainerIn and help me becoming an Entrepreneur – Day 10
BWM – Build with me SalesTrainerIn and help me becoming an Entrepreneur – Day 10

The last two days I have been to an amazing qualification workshop and can now call myself a certified user of Hogan Assessments.

Whoop Whoop!

Hogan Assessments

BWM – Build with me SalesTrainerIn and help me becoming an Entrepreneur – Day 11

I have spoken about about Hogan already before and must say those two days were simply amazing! Absolutely can’t wait to use this tool! It provides amazing insides on your reputation. Reputation means what other people think about you.

Stuttgart

The qualification has taken place in Stuttgart, Germany. And it was simply amazing to participate in a very small workshop grow. To get some insights on how to use personality assessments in German. Until today I have only used them in English.

Entrepreneurship and Sparring

I only can recommend every aspiring entrepreneur to surround yourself with other entrepreneurs. Sure, you have already your inner circle, the people you trust. But it’s simply super beneficial to have an entrepreneurial exchange from time to time. To talk through obstacles and hurdles. With someone who has been there or is currently in the same position. To tackle the “ugly frogs” and share best practice. Huge recommendation! If you can’t find any entrepreneurs next to you please do get in touch. I am more than happy to introduce you to some active, international groups I am a member of.

The first week as a full-time entrepreneur is over .. That was quick. I think after one week in it’s a great time for a first review how it feels to be full responsible to build a successful company.

It feels great! What I love most is the feeling to have a purpose in my doing. To have set myself on a mission. To have set myself goals I want to smash. To make a tiny piece of this world a better place.

It also does feel a bit exhausting. My head simply doesn’t turn off. Whenever I had a “normal” job I could easily switch into weekend mode and just forget about my work stuff from Friday afternoon till Monday morning. Now, I am constantly thinking. I tried not to work on this first weekend as we had friends staying over. But nevertheless, I constantly thought about ways to be more efficient, to plan out my day, to further define my plans…

It’s a good thing tho. And I believe necessary. A slight obsession I guess is needed to make a startup successful. Passion for what you are doing definitely helps to keep motivated and avoid excuses and procrastination.

I mean, there is a fine line from promoting your business, building your brand and going everyones nerves 😉 I try to find this balance and also keep interest in other areas.

Are any new entrepreneurs reading this blog? How do you handle free” weekends? Would love to exchange best practices – please get in touch! 🙂

Build with me – Day 4 as a full-time entrepreneur

BWM – Build with me SalesTrainerIn and help me becoming an Entrepreneur – Day 4
BWM – Build with me SalesTrainerIn and help me becoming an Entrepreneur – Day 4

Day 4 as a full-time entrepreneur…. What shall I say? The truth is, today was tough. Not really as nothing really bad happened or anything but I realised that it’s a whole lot need to be down. The amount of work you have to put into a new company to actually set the fundament can be quickly overwhelming.

What I have planned to do …

Before I actually got started this week full-time I hustled aside. I worked after hours, after a normal workday, to build my business. I registered the company, have built the webpage, created social media accounts  ….. and so much more.

I created also a plan how I gonna schedule my days as soon as I gonna pull in full-time. I had also planed to eat healthy and go the gym daily. The healthy eating bit I manage to do pretty well, however, going to the gym although there is so much work to do feels a bit wrong. Yes, I know it’s not wrong but it what it feels like.

I also had planned to schedule my work on every day according to topics. This means to have a social media day, a business development day, a research and content day, training days and consulting days. So far so gut.

What I am really doing right now….

So, as described above these were my plans and how I would love to work. Reality is – it’s nothing like that. There are so many more things to be considered when you are building a business. A routine seems like something pretty odd. For example I have to create contracts. Need to register for corporate tax etc.

What I also realised is that the english system appears to be very different from the German. Furthermore is English not my mother tongue what makes things slightly more difficult. I relocated to the UK two years ago and of course I learned English at school but it’s very, very different to living in England and speaking on day-to-day basis. It’s also more difficult to get your head around all the paper works. And I believe with speaking in a different language one automatically feels slightly less confident than in ones mother tongue.

But I can absolutely recommend the page gov.uk to everybody who is currently either founding a business or thinking about it. The page is amazingly informative, handy and very well written.

And I never shied away from a challenge so I will do my very best to fight all obstacles and get this baby off the ground!

Build with me – Day 2 as a full-time entrepreneur

BWM – Build with me SalesTrainerIn and help me becoming an Entrepreneur – Day 1
BWM – Build with me SalesTrainerIn and help me becoming an Entrepreneur – Day 1

This has been day 2 of my journey to become an entrepreneur. I sticked with my tactic to pick my 3 most important things to do, frogs to eat and focus on getting them done. This worked pretty alright. I focused for example on the preparation for my qualification course next week. A lot of reading to do and it got me even more excited to use those tools.

Differences between corporate world and being out there on your own

I have to admit it already does feel super different. And it’s not only easy. Someone like me who has worked in the corporate world for more or less 10 years is definitely used to a different style of working and thinking.

For example working hours – there is of course no one who would dictate me when to work and how many hours to work etc. but it does feel a bit weird to head to the Gym during lunch or any other “unproductive” hour. I am aware that it’s the right thing to do, to make the best use of your own energy level at any given time but it still feels “different”. And even home offices do feel differently than being an entrepreneur.

Another thing is the freedom. As an employee you agree to pre-defined goals and targets. You have regular reviews. Short, you get controlled in one way or another. I have to keep track of myself. Set not only my own targets but also set the targets and mission of a company. I have to keep the bigger picture in mind and am literally my own boss. It does feel good though but it’s really different.

What goes along with the freedom is the kind of responsibility. When working in a corporate environment you are mainly at least 2 people if not more than 500,000 people within the same company. Your desk is pretty specialised. It can be a bit more general – depending on the company size but you never need to pay attention to all areas of the business. When you are self-employed you have to. You might outsource some things but you still have to be aware of potential risks.

Thoughts?!

In general I believe it’s a great challenge to become an entrepreneur and I am more than happy I have accepted this opportunity. Let’s roll.

You can read everything about my first day as on my journey here.
